RE4 Remake A Savage Mutt Quest Guide And How To Complete It

24 August 2026 | 16

The Resident Evil 4 Remake introduces numerous side quests called Requests, which reward players with Spinels for upgrading equipment. One of the most challenging early-game hunts is the Savage Mutt contract, found during Chapter 5. Tracking down and eliminating this infected beast requires careful preparation and an understanding of its unique shifting locations.

How to Trigger the Savage Mutt Request

To begin the hunt, you must grab the blue request note located near the Village Chief's Manor. The note is pinned to a wall right next to the merchant shop just outside the village square. Picking it up will officially add the objective to your map, tasking you with killing a powerful threat roaming the area.

Before hunting the beast, you need to advance the game's timeline slightly by investigating the manor itself. Head inside the Village Chief's Manor and explore the second-floor bedroom with Ashley to trigger the necessary world state change. Once you exit the building, the terrifying target will spawn and begin stalking the pathways nearby.

Locating the Savage Mutt Target

As you leave the manor premises, look toward the iron gate leading back to the village square to spot the creature. The infected dog will briefly show itself before sprinting away into the foggy village paths. You must follow its trail carefully, as it heads directly toward the open area of the Village Square.

Navigate back into the central square where you fought the initial village mob earlier in the game. The beast will ambush you alongside several standard infected villagers that complicate the battlefield. Clearing out the minor threats first provides you with the spatial freedom required to tackle the main boss.

Combat Strategies and Best Weapons

The Savage Mutt possesses significantly more health and speed than standard Plaga-infected hounds. Utilizing heavy-impact firearms like the W-870 Shotgun or a fully upgraded handgun is highly recommended for stopping its fast charges. Flash grenades can also momentarily blind the creature, creating perfect openings for high-damage physical attacks.

Watch out for its extended tendrils, which sprout from its back once it takes substantial damage. These mutations increase its attack range and aggression, meaning you must keep your distance using tactical backsteps. Aiming for the exposed weak points on its body will drain its massive health pool much faster.

Claiming Your Spinel Rewards

Once the corrupted beast collapses, remember to approach its body to collect valuable treasure items. The creature drops a large gemstone that can be sold to the merchant for a massive sum of Pesetas. This additional currency helps fund essential weapon upgrades needed for the upcoming castle sections.

Return to any nearby merchant location to officially report the completion of the contract. The merchant will reward you with eight Spinels, which can be traded for rare weapon modifications and useful items. Completing this hunt ensures Leon remains well-equipped to face the escalating dangers of his rescue mission.
